10 Things You Can Do at the Library

The Tuscarawas County Public Library System has changed a lot since the card catalog days. 


“The Library system is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the public and to stay current on technology and educational trends,” said Director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell. 


Every week there are free opportunities for individuals of all ages to enjoy at the five locations of the county Library system. 


1.    Learn Another Language
Access the Library system’s database Mango Languages to choose from over 60 languages to study online and on the go through their mobile app.


2.    Get a Passport
Schedule an appointment at the Main Library to apply, renew, or get a photo taken for a passport.
 

3.    Access Wi-Fi Points  
Enjoy free access to Wi-Fi at our buildings and in your community. Simply visit one of our five locations or a Wi-Fi access point in your neighborhood and you will be able to log on to our secure Wi-Fi with your personal devices.


4.    View Online Courses
Did you know the Library offers free online courses and trainings? Whether you are looking to repair your car, need a refresher on Microsoft Office, or are looking to practice for the ACT, your TCPL library card can provide you access.


5.    Stream Movies, Music, and TV Shows
Hoopla allows library customers to instantly checkout 15 items per month including eBooks, audiobooks, movies, and music. 


6.    Schedule a Notary Appointment
Free notary services are available by appointment at each of our five locations. 


7.    Conduct Genealogy Research
Trying to learn more about your heritage? Use Ancestry Library Edition, enjoy free printing during our Book-a-Genealogist while receiving assistance from library staff, or search military records through the library’s Fold3 database.


8.    Spark Your Imagination with the Library of Things
Curious about robotics? Interested in metal detecting? Check out non-traditional items from the Library of Things including hotspots, Tonieboxes, memory kits, ready for school backpacks, birdwatching kits, pickleball rackets, and more.

9.    Explore MakerSpaces
Interested in getting crafty or exploring 3D design? Visit the library’s MakerSpace to use the 3D printer, Cricut®, button maker, heat press, laminator, sublimation printer, or sewing machine. 


10.    Use Museum Passes 
All TCPL library cardholders in good standing will be eligible to check out a pass to visit area attractions like the Akron Zoo, Pro Football Hall of Fame, Art Museums and more. 


“While a lot has changed about today’s library, the Library remains a place of inspiration,” said Ramsell. “Our goal has always been the same – providing the best service to the customer.”
