The New Philadelphia Friends of the Library are hosting their annual Garden Tour fundraiser on Saturday, July 8th from 9:00 AM 3:00 PM. Tickets for the self-guided tour, which includes six gardens in and around Tuscarawas County, will go on sale May 1st.
The self-guided tour will showcase gardens in and around Tuscarawas County including a variety of garden types and plants, from ornamental to native, and beyond. Gardens on the tour include:
Hosta House Located in Beach City, this garden has 1.5 acres dedicated to plantings. You will find numerous perennials including hydrangeas, 200 different varieties of daylilies, over 400 different varieties of hostas, as well as succulents, and fairy gardens that add charm to the garden all summer long. As you walk through the gardens, you will enjoy the relaxing sound of water from the koi pond and various fountains that are displayed throughout the property.
Terra Depot This nature specialty shop in Navarre features bird feeders, bird houses, delightful garden statuary, and more. Tour the 100 high tunnel featuring seven heirloom varieties of red raspberries and learn how to support a healthy habitat with native plants including perennials, shrubs, and trees.
Monarch Garden Explore the abundance of perennials at this quaint home in the Village of Bolivar. Learn what plants attract butterflies while viewing the butterfly house, see what treasures are growing in the greenhouse, and enjoy the calming effects of this gardens decorative pond.
Zoar Wetland Arboretum Nestled just outside the village of Zoar, the wetland is an 82-acre nature park, including 50 acres of woodland and 2 miles of walking trails surrounding the 30-acre shallow water marsh. Bird enthusiasts can view over 160 species including bald eagles. Stroll along the arboretum trail that includes 34 different labeled trees, or stop and view the variety of succulents and flowers blooming on the terraces.
The Zoar Garden Dating back to 1830 this garden located in the Historic Zoar Village is laid out as the Separatists of Zoar once had it planted. The garden is a representation of the New Jerusalem from the book of Revelations. 12 apostle trees circle a large center tree representing Jesus. A large variety of modern and historic plantings are available for view including peonies planted by the Separatists themselves. The garden also features a garden house with an attached hot house, one of the first in Ohio.
Rock House Garden This clearing in the woods located off 7 Mile Drive is surrounded by mature trees, fountains, and a picket fence with handmade iron gates. Stroll along the brick and gravel walks to view the Japanese garden, statues, and metal sculptures made by the homeowner. Enjoy the tranquil sound of a waterfall from the propertys pond.
Tickets are available to purchase and pick up during normal business hours at the Main Library in New Philadelphia, the Zoar Store in Zoar, as well as the Librarys four branches in Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, and Tuscarawas. Tickets cost $15 and may be purchased by cash or check made out to the Friends of the Library NP. The proceeds from the Garden Tour will benefit the Tuscarawas County Library Foundation
