A Genealogy Afternoon - DNA

On Saturday, April 5th from 12:00PM - 4:00PM, the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is hosting A Genealogy Afternoon featuring guest speaker Kelli Bergheimer at its Main Library. Bergheimer will cover topics related to genealogy and DNA research.

"We are looking forward to Kelli Bergheimer joining us," says Library Director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell. "She has such a strong background in genealogy, and we think she has a lot to bring to the table in terms of guiding us in our own research."

Bergheimer is the Director of Education for Your DNA Guide and runs a small business called Mess on the Desk, a genealogical organization company. Bergheimer also facilitates a DNA interest group called Genetics, Genealogy, and You and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and the Genealogical Speaker's Guild.

A Genealogy Afternoon will encompass three sessions on the following topics:

  • 3 types of DNA, 4 challenging types of families, 5 DNA testing companies -- Help Me Understand!

You might have heard about the different types of DNA, different DNA testing companies, and how different types of families can present challenges to figuring out your DNA matches. Learn to untangle your match list with shared matches.

  • DNA Suprises

Have you ever wondered what kinds of surprises DNA testing can reveal? Learn about some common misconceptions, ethical     dilemmas, and what kinds of information you might stumble upon from taking a DNA test.

  • AncestryDNA - Click on Everything

If you have an AncestryDNA test and aren't sure what you can learn from it, come to hear about all the available information about ethnicity and shared matches. Learn how to figure out who the matches are in your match list.

Light refreshments will be served. The Library's Main Library is located at 121 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia. The afternoon is free of charge, but registration is required and can be done online at the Library's event calendar at tusclibrary.org or by calling 330-364-4474.
