County Library to Host Planetarium Program

The Tuscarawas County Public Library System’s Main Library in New Philadelphia will host the Ohio State University’s Solstice Outreach Mobile Planetarium for kids in grades K-5 on June 18th at 1:30 PM.

“Many kids enjoy looking skyward, but some have never been to a planetarium,” said Children’s Services Manager Mary Smrek. “This program is a great opportunity for them to have a chance to enjoy a fun and informative experience that will have them thinking more when they look skyward.”

Solstice Outreach provides a real-time immersive experience inside a domed screen portable planetarium that projects dynamic imagery in front of, above, and behind the audience. Attendees will will blast off from Earth to explore our galaxy, going in order from the sun to Neptune. They will learn about the planets in our solar system and what makes them unique, nearby moons, and other celestial artifacts before landing back on Earth.

“We love the opportunity to provide a way for area children to stay interested in learning throughout their summer break,” said Library Director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell. “This program is going to be such a fun way to spark interest about science as they learn about the planets and the night sky.”

Registration for this free event is required and may be done by visiting our online event calendar or by calling the library at 330-364-4474.
