155,232 VISITS TO OUR LIBRARY SYSTEM (FIVE LOCATIONS AND A MOBILE SERVICE DEPARTMENT) Director’s Note: As we moved out of the global pandemic in 2023, the Tuscarawas County Public Library System set its sights on re-engaging the community through programming, services, and community partnerships. We held 1,654 library and outreach programs across our system - 12% more programs than the previous year. We added to our collection, including non-traditional items like additional hotspots, museum passes, memory kits, pickleball sets, and traffic cones. We also invested in technology offerings in 2023. We completed a much-needed networking project across our system to ensure that the library could continue to bring high-speed Internet access to our customers. We reopened, refreshed, and revamped our five MakerSpaces. Our Main Library and Tusky Branch MakerSpaces were each updated to include a 5-in-1 heat press and a sublimation printer. We increased the number of public computers across our system. We saw more than 52% increase in overall computer usage in 2023, and an 86% increase in public Wi-Fi usage in and outside our buildings. Through a generous donation and a partnership with the New Philadelphia City Parks, the library installed a StoryWalk® at the Southside Community Park in New Philadelphia. The library also spread access to reading materials by installing its 12th Little Free Library in Stonecreek. Our library system engaged the community in donation drives, which resulted in the collection and distribution of 1,140 items for seniors in area nursing homes and residential communities and 633 personal items to students in local school districts through a partnership with Tusc Against Trafficking. Our library’s Betty Lou Honaker Books for Babies Trust Fund provided 155 books, 77 of those bilingual, to babies born at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital. Finally, in 2023 we invited the community to join us in looking toward the library’s future by providing input in our strategic planning process. With feedback from the community, staff, and administration, the library developed its 2024-2026 Strategic Plan with goals and objectives that will focus on making our libraries accessible for all, celebrating diversity, collaborating within the community, supporting lifelong learning, optimizing our assets, and helping to meet the community’s social service needs. We are excited for 2024 and look forward to the privilege of serving you.
