Do you love to talk about books and recommend your favorites to others? Connect with other adults in the community by joining one of the library system’s monthly book clubs.

The Tuscarawas County Public Library System offers nine book clubs that span its five locations in Bolivar, Main Library in New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, Tuscarawas, and the Library’s Mobile Services Department. The groups meet monthly to discuss a pre-selected title made available to club members before the meeting. Meetings typically last for about an hour.

“I think it’s in our human nature to gravitate toward settings that provide a sense of community,” Mobile Services Supervisor Lacy Bartley said. “A book club offers both a place of belonging and an outlet for significant, thought-provoking conversations.”

Bartley, who will facilitate the new LGBTQ+ Alliance Beyond Book Club, notes that the library system will feature three new book clubs this fall in addition to the library’s six established clubs.

The Continuous Book Club, being offered at the Tuscarawas Branch, will offer an open written discussion of the monthly book through notecards posted in the branch during the span of the week. The Graphically Read Book Club, offered at the Main Library, will encourage readers to explore the art of storytelling through graphic novels and comics with other group members each month. The LGBTQ+ Alliance Beyond Book Club, which will meet at Starbucks in New Philadelphia, will be a safe and welcoming space to discuss issues related to LGBTQ+ themes and artists. It will be a respectful and inviting atmosphere for those in the LGBTQ+ community and allies.
