Position: Public Relations Associate

Status: 35 hours per week

Salary: $15.50 per hour plus benefits

Qualifications: At least one of the following: 1) Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field OR 2) An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Required Knowledge: Strong knowledge of English language; Principles of written and visual media; Principles of product/service marketing and promotion; Knowledge of customer service including needs assessment; Knowledge of social media marketing principles; Knowledge of basic graphic design and print production; Proficiency with Word, Powerpoint, Excel; Experience with creative software; Knowledge of web content and video

Required Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills; organizational skills; public speaking skills - ability to effectively present in a variety of formal settings; ability to implement creative approaches to reach targeted audiences; computer skills including desktop publishing, presentation, and Office suite software

Duties Include: The successful candidate will work closely with the Library’s Director, administrative team, and library staff in promotion of the library system’s brand to targeted audiences. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Coordinates and writes library press releases, book reviews, targeted emails, and web stories
  • Coordinates library awareness activities and represents the library at public meetings
  • Oversees the creation and production of the system’s seasonal programming brochure
  • Oversees the creation and production of programming posters, flyers, bookmarks, and promotional products
  • Oversees the creation and production of digital signage and app-based reading challenges
  • Oversees library website and library app updates
  • Works with the administration in cultivating media and stakeholder relationships
  • Provides input to the library’s administrative team regarding areas of public interest
  • Represents the Library at community meetings and events to seek communication opportunities
