Nellie Stockwell Grant in Aid 2022

Applications are currently being accepted for the Friends of the Tuscarawas County Public Library – Nellie Stockwell Memorial Grant in Aid. The $500 grant named after the library’s first librarian is open to area students who are planning to continue their education after high school.

“As Friends of the Library members, we support and advocate for the library and its role in promoting literacy and learning through a lifetime,” said current Friends of the Library president Candy Beaber. “We established this grant to benefit an area student and to promote the important role a library plays in our lives.”

To be eligible for this grant, students must be a high school graduate from a school within the County Library’s legal service district. Schools include New Philadelphia High School, Buckeye Career Center, Central Catholic High School, Tusky Valley High School, Strasburg Franklin High School, Garaway High School, Indian Valley High School, Quaker Digital Academy, Garaway Virtual Academy.

In addition to graduates of these schools, anyone living in the County Library System’s legal service district who holds a GED is also eligible. Anyone with questions about their eligibility may email inquiries to aatcpl@gmail.com.

Applicants are required to provide three letters of recommendation and a letter of admission or schedule of courses for an accredited college, university, or technical school. This includes online programs as well. A typed, 500 word essay expressing why the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is important to the applicant is also required to be considered for the award.

Applications for this grant will be available in school guidance offices, as well as at the Main Library. Completed applications are due June 1st and may be turned into the Main Library in New Philadelphia or mailed to Friends Scholarship Committee, Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. No late applications will be accepted. The winner will be notified by late summer.

This grant is provided by the Friends of the Tuscarawas County Public Library New Philadelphia, which is a 501c3 organization. The County Library System has a Main Library in New Philadelphia; four branches in Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, and Tuscarawas; and Mobile Services which operates throughout its service district. Each location of the County Library has a Friends group that supports the work of its branch and the library system as a whole. Individuals interested in supporting the county library system are encouraged to inquire, at their library, about becoming a Friends member.
