Animal Encounter Series

Eight live and virtual animal acts will inhabit the Tuscarawas County Public Library System this summer.

“These acts are a continuation of our popular Animal Encounter series,” said Tuscarawas Branch Supervisor Tabitha Johnson. “We will be bringing back some crowd favorite as well as bringing in virtual shows to allow families to explore creatures from the sea.”

Acts include:

  1. Birds of Prey

Join bird enthusiast and rehabilitator Nancy Owens for this hands-on event featuring birds of pretty. Participants will meet owls and a red-tailed hawk as they learn about the important role these creatures play in our ecosystem. Best for children ages 5+ held at the Main Library (121 Fair Ave. NW in New Philadelphia) on Wednesday, June 29th at 1:30 PM.

  1. Marine Mammal Senses

Learn about the sensory systems of marine mammals and how they are the same but also different than a human’s senses with a virtual visit from the Pacific Marine Mammal Center at the Main Library on Wednesday, July 6th at 1:30 PM.

  1. Akron Zoomobile

Join the Akron Zoo to see and interact with three live animal ambassadors and learn all about them on Saturday, July 9th at 1:00 PM at the Bolivar Branch (455 West Water Street in Bolivar).

  1. Cleveland Aquarium Virtual Tour

Enjoy a live virtual tour of the Cleveland Aquarium with sharks, stingrays, and other sea creatures at the Main Library on Wednesday, July 13th at 1:30 PM.

  1. Leaping Lizards in Sugarceek

Join the Leaping Lizards team as they show at least 10 of their reptile friends, answer questions, and pose for pictures on Wednesday, July 13th at 2:30 PM at the Sugarcreek Fire Station Pavilion (152 North Broadway St. in Sugarcreek).

  1. Leaping Lizards in Tusky

Leaping Lizards will share their reptile friends, answer questions, and pose for pictures on Wednesday, July 13th at 5:30 PM at the Tusky Community Center (222 E. Cherry St. in Tuscarawas).

  1. Manatees Matter

Join photographer Daniel Caron as he discusses manatees, the care and concern for manatees environmentally, and photographs of manatees in the wild. He will also share videos and personal experiences of swimming with manatees, including equipment on Tuesday, July 19th at 6:30 PM at the Main Library.

  1. All About Seals & Sea Lions

Seals and sea lions inhabit every ocean in the world, join Ocean Connections to discover where they live and how they survive. They will go poolside in this virtual visit to showcase the recreated ocean habitat of seals and sea lions. This program will take place at the Main Library on Wednesday, July 27th at 1:30 PM.
