2024 Garden Tour

The New Philadelphia Friends of the Library are hosting their annual Garden Tour fundraiser on Saturday, July 13th from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. Tickets are on sale for the self-guided tour, which includes six gardens in and around Tuscarawas County.

“This year’s tour will focus on gardens in southern Tuscarawas County,” said Friends President Candy Beaber. “The proceeds from the Garden Tour will benefit the Tuscarawas County Library Foundation; last year’s garden tour raised over $2,000 for the library foundation.”

The Library Foundation provides a vessel for the library to receive gifts and, with investment and growth, it will benefit the Tuscarawas County Public Library System and its customers for years to come.

The self-guided tour will showcase gardens in and around Tuscarawas County including a variety of garden types and plants, from large vegetable gardens to wildflower gardens, and beyond. Gardens on the tour include:

  • Brigadoon Homestead — Wander around this property outside of Gilmore to view the orchard, large vegetable garden, perennial flower beds, and herbs. Enjoy the free-roaming poultry on the farm as the gardener shares her knowledge on forest gardening, permaculture, and livestock integration.
  • Little Acorns Greenhouse and Nursery â€” This family-owned business in Port Washington offers numerous greenhouse flowers, vegetables, hanging baskets, containers, and more. The multi-season landscape surrounding the home and business includes water, vegetable, and wildflower gardens, as well as bird-friendly features throughout the property.
  • Olive Hill Homestead â€” Travel down a dirt road to this property in Newcomerstown to see this 4,000-square-foot vegetable garden. The edible landscape includes peas, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, beans, potatoes and more. Explore the cut flower garden while asking the gardener about her canning methods and sourdough start.
  • Redrock Farm — Located in the valleys of Port Washington, this family farm provides homegrown produce and flower arrangements to the community. The farm includes a wide variety of produce planted along with flowers and herbs. View the custom-built raised flower beds, berry bushes, and grapes vines before exploring the hillside corn and pumpkin patch.
  • Radharc Ranch â€” Follow the gravel road to explore the diverse vegetable gardens with flowers and herbs scattered throughout this ranch located in Port Washington. Check out the unique cattle panel trellises and learn about the heirloom plants this gardener grows.
  • The Gardens of Soil & Substance â€” Explore this garden in New Philadelphia which showcases the joys of both an artist’s heart and a gardener’s wonder. Meander down “Bloomington Avenue” to experience seasonal pockets of bright perennial, tropical, and annual color. Make a turn along the Twisted Willow -natural fence row in training- and pass the raised beds on “Blackberry Lane” for a glimpse over the berries and into the veggie plot. Along the way be sure to notice the hand-dug pathways, colorful containers, frugal and home-crafted trellises, and thrifted treasures throughout.

Tickets are available to purchase and pick up during normal business hours at the Main Library in New Philadelphia, and the Library’s four branches in Bolivar, Strasburg, Sugarcreek, and Tuscarawas. Tickets cost $15 and may be purchased by cash or check made out to the Friends of the Library – NP. Those wishing to pay by credit card can purchase tickets at Main Library.
